Opponents and Neighbours: book launch party for the official Fort George & Buckingham House book

Join us for a celebration of the momentous achievement: the publication of Opponents and Neighbours: Fort George and Buckingham House and the Early Fur Trade on the North Saskatchewan River, 1792–1800.

Explore the world of the book with activities, trivia and demonstrations!

Before the historic site was open to visitors, extensive research was conducted on the two fur trade forts that once stood on these river banks. Those research reports served as the foundation for the building and establishment of tours at the historic site when it opened in 1992.

This indispensable work, updated to reflect the latest scholarship on the western-Canadian fur trade has now been published in a beautifully bound and illustrated hardcover book.

A celebration of the book is also a celebration of the Friends of the Forts Society without whose support and funding, this publication could never have taken place.

Early reviews of the book:

“This is a project many years in the making, and I have to say it was worth the wait.”- Scott P Stephen Parks Canada, Winnipeg, Prairie History
